Welcome
Welcome and thank you for your interest in the DMC/Wayne State University Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.
The DMC/WSU HPM fellowship program was created and accepted its first fellow in 2005, the first in Michigan. At the time, HPM had not yet been recognized as a specialty by ABMS with no accreditation available for fellowship programs. When ACGME accreditation became available in 2009, the DMC/WSU program gained accreditation in the first cycle and has maintained accreditation since. Our program has trained nearly 30 HPM physicians with careers ranging from inpatient palliative medicine to hospice medical director to home based palliative medicine.
The DMC/WSU HPM Fellowship is a one-year program in southeast Michigan. Our program mission is to train skilled and compassionate HPM physicians who provide relief of suffering for patients with serious and life-limiting illnesses and their families. Our program provides a wide variety of experiences and the opportunity to care for patients across all age groups, cultural backgrounds and the full spectrum of serious illness. Fellows will be prepared for any career within the spectrum of HPM after completing the fellowship. We are passionate about advancing the education of medical students and residents and fellows will have ample opportunities to hone their teaching skills.
Fellows will be eligible for board certification following completion of the training program.
